On Sept. 19, 2022, officers from Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested 36-year-old Edmond Clark III for assaulting another person at The Trading Post in Bern. At Store Marina, Punta Gorda, Fla., in an arrest at the scene.

Authorities said Clark stabbed the victim more than 40 times in the head, neck and torso, prompting the injured to be taken to hospital. to receive urgent life-saving surgery

Police have released footage of the store's CCTV footage showing the scene of the crime, showing Clark and the victim entering the store around 7 p.m., both ordering drinks and upon receiving their items. They set the drink down on the counter, before Clarke grabbed scissors from a nearby pencil barrel and stabbed the victim in the head and neck in front of the shopkeepers.

Police arrested Clark at the scene of the unintentional attempted murder.

Clark and the victim had known each other before, with Clark working as a caregiver for the victim's father. Prior to the incident, the victim was picked up by Clark from the hospital, where he claimed to see a doctor because he felt pain in his abdomen.
